Weird Al Yankovic isn't buying into the AI hype. In an interview with The Post-Standard ahead of a July 10 concert in Syracuse New York, he shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence. With AI making parody songwriting a breeze, he believes it's lost the creative spark that comes from human intelligence.
"I'm not a fan of AI," he said. And he has a good reason for it. Weird Al was once offered a lucrative ad spot, but things took a turn when he found out the company's true nature.
He was told it was for business software that would boost productivity, and the pay was good. "I said, 'Oh well, yeah, sure, I could do that,'" he recalled. But a week before actually shooting, he discovered it was actually for AI software. "And I thought, 'Oh no - I can't be the poster boy for AI, forget it.'"
Real talk: no hesitation, no second thoughts - Weird Al bailed on the ad deal immediately. He did express some regret for pulling out just a week before the shoot, but his mind was made up. The new knowledge was a game-changer.
It's refreshing to see someone like Weird Al taking a stand against AI, especially when it seems like it's taking over. He values the human touch in creative work, and who can blame him? In an era where technology is advancing rapidly, it's nice to know there are still those who appreciate the imperfections of human work.
